Toy Mi-ki Standard
The standard by which Mi-kis should be judged was established by the breed's founder, Rev. Maureen Westberg VonWormer in 1991. The standard is as follows:
Head: Small and well rounded.
Skull: A soft spot may be found at the top of the skull, but should close by the time the pup is six months old.
Muzzle: A defined stop; blunt or slight pointed, never longer than two inches or shorter than 3/4 inch to the stop.
Nose: Dark in color (self-coloring accepted in the liver, brown, red, or orange).
Teeth: Level to a very slight undershot bite; should never expose teeth over the top lip.
Eyes: Bright, prominent, set well apart, very alert.
Neck: Only moderately short; never too long or thick (the neck should have a dainty look).
Chest: Well rounded; not wide or barreled.
Ears: Two types; both types must be fully fringed with hair, very erect to fully dropped along the head.
Height: Should never exceed 10 inches from floor to shoulder.
Weight: Should never exceed 10 pounds: most desired at 4 - 8 pounds; a female, if breeding, should be at least 5.5 to 8 pounds. Any Mi-ki over 8 pounds is pet quality. An over-sized male should not be considered as a stud for breeding.
Feet: Small, long toes; well split apart, yet not spread; five toes on the front feet, only four toes on the rear feet. Due to their long toes on the front feet, the Mi-ki tends to use the front feet in a hand-like manner. They often tend to stand with their front feet turned in or out when relaxed.
Movement: Light, dainty, free moving; must cover the ground smoothly with no restrictions to their gait if fast or slow.
Body: Short cobby look is most desired; a level back and rear. The slightly longer body on a female can make for easier birthing.
Legs: Straight fore legs; rear legs set well under the hind quarters; firm with hock set slightly apart well set down giving firm smooth swaying action.
Coat: Solid, splashed, grizzle, in all colors; black, blue, silver, brown, tan, red, orange, tawny, yellow, cream, or pure white.
Tail: Long, full plumage of straight hair; may be carried up over the back or dropped down when in movement. However, full plumage is expected by the time a Mi-ki is 18 months old.
